The next workshop:
Re-Assessing our Assumptions of Wastewater Toxicity to WWTP Microorganisms
is scheduled for early 2011. If you are interested in this topic, you can send an email to PREPARE and provide an expression of interest.
The workshop remit will be addressing scenarios such as:
“If a standard toxicity assessment on wastewater in a WWTP (wastewater treatment plant) during non-pandemic conditions indicates a moderate level of toxicity (i.e. growth inhibition) to microorganisms from projected concentrations of pharmaceuticals (e.g. antibiotics) in the wastewater, AND the WWTP is operating satisfactorily, is there a problem? How do you scale up the projections of ‘toxicity’ to Pandemic drug usage if you already know that your fundamental assumptions on toxicity were incorrect?”
